Garnett, Celtics Need Game 6

Kevin Garnett (former NBA MVP) needs to put the Boston Celtics on his back, lead them to a Game 6 victory and take them to the Conference Finals. Tonight in Cleveland, KG can add to his H.O.F. stature by being the best player on the court and the primary reason the Celtics advance over LeBron’s Cavaliers.

KG… Bill Russell is watching you!

  1. bro,

If you saw the interview live last night you should know already that Mr. Bill … the greatest basketball player in history … doesn’t believe in putting teammates on your back and carrying them anywhere.

No … Mr. Bill believes in wrapping your out-stretched arms around them and taking them WITH you towards the goal at-hands … a subtle but IMPORTANT distinction.

There’s a good reason Mr. Bill won all those championships as the FOCAL POINT for the Celtics.

The Man knows exactly of what he speaks.

Listen and Learn … from the Master. 🙂

    It’s a sports metaphor…

Check this out, Bill Russell had Hall of Famers throughout his team(s). All he needed to be was a leader and facilitator. Grant it… he was a lot more than that. KG is by far the best player on his team.

In order to win NBA Championships in the modern game, the best players put Their teams on Their backs. Meaning, they lead them and are not being led. NBA Owners aren’t maxing (contracts) players to just be another guy. They max them because they believe they are the players that win playoff/championship games.

The Master and I are saying the same thing… he just has more cred.

Strength to B. Russell and his legacy.

  4. bro,

I understood it as a sports metaphor in the first place.

It’s just a metaphor that is not in keeping with the teachings and the legacy of Mr. Bill … that’s all.

Riding on the backs of their best player … can you picture that image? … is NOT the same thing as, “A team having its best player out-stretch his arms to either side of his body and within his wingspan engulf them, and take them WITH him toward the intended goal” … can you picture THAT image?

It’s a subtle point of Effective Leadership that I think you might still be missing … and, one that distinguishes Mr. Bill’s recommended Leadership style from others.

I like Bill Russell and his leadership skills. You cannot question someone that has won as much as he has. I’m not challenging Russell on anything. If he wanted to, he could run any Fortune 500 company brilliantly. I have mad respect for Russell.

That said, KG is a great leader and has been given a lot of credit for the Celtics great season. Many great leaders in the NBA haven’t won Championships. He just needs to get it done and this is the best team he has been on. This ain’t the Timberwolves… he gets a pass due to Kevin McHale’s mis-management.

KG needs to just get it done… Russell has so he can say and believe whatever he wants. He is Legend.

Are you a Boston fan or Russell fan?

  6. AMP,

I’m a fan of Excellence … and Mr. Bill is at the head of that Class, in my book.

“Kevin … you’ve never disappointed me … you keep playing the way you do and if you don’t win a championship, I will share one of mine with you, out of Friendship.” – Bill Russell

    Nuff, said.
