12th Anniversary: Notorious B.I.G.
Christopher George Latore Wallace (May 21, 1972 – March 9, 1997), popularly known by Biggie Smalls/Notorious B.I.G.
Twelve years have passed since arguably the greatest MC ever was gunned down. Brooklyn’s Finest, Christopher Wallace, was murdered in cold blood on March 9, 1997. It was one of those moments that cats like me will never forget… Biggie was part of your life during the mid-90’s.
In ’94, he released his classic record Ready to Die and immediately became part of the mainstream consciousness. He is credited with bringing the Hip Hop focus back to where it all started… NYC. The West Coast had taken control of Hip Hop with the gangsta flava but Biggie grabbed Hip Hop by the throat like he choke his mic… the East Coast was back and that was a major accomplishment in the industry. Some have even connected this East Coast vs. West Coast rivarly to Biggie’s death by an unknown gunman in Los Angeles.
Biggie’s double cd Life After Death was released fifteen days later after his death. The cd hit #1 on the U.S. album charts and was certified Diamond in 2000.
Respect to Big Poppa!
