Cowboys Cheerleader Dresses Like Lil’ Wayne

dalllas cowboys 2

dalllas cowboys 1

Some websites are calling 21-year-old Dallas Cowboys’ Cheerleader Whitney Isleib out for her decision to dress as Lil’ Wayne. They are comparing it to dressing in ‘Blackface.” What do you think? Are White People not allowed to dress up as famous Black People on Halloween?

Look at some of the other people at the same party Whitney is at and you decide if others are having fun with costumes or being insensitive.

I think her only mistake was posting the photos on FaceBook. The Dallas Cowboys just don’t want or need any controversy and she just has to be wiser. She represents the Cowboys brand even in her personal life. This is another young person making a poor choice with a social network…

It’s Halloween and I don’t have an issue with her dressing as Lil’ Wayne. She didn’t dress up as a slave or another horrible image of a Black Person. Cut Whitney some slack…

So what?!!! I am black and this is not dressing in Black Face! There is a difference! Lil’ Wayne is very popular and all races listen to his music, so if she wants to dress like Lil’ Wayne, who give a flying flipper? There are much more important issues to worry about. This was innocent fun.

Hahah!! as a Black person I have to say I could give to flying craps about her dressing as Lil Wayne It’s a big difference between this and black face! I think that this is one of those costumes that’s so horrible it’s funny

I have no idea why everyone is going crazy about this, so as a black person would me dressing as donald trumph for halloween be offensive? IT IS HALLOWEEN, WE ARE SUPPOSED TO DRESS AS SOMEONE, OR SOMETHING WE ARE NOT!!

Ironically enough it’s mostly white people who have picked up
this story and ran with it…It’s a difference between her ridiculous costume and Black Face….a big big difference…
I would be getting pissed if she dressed as Sambo or someone
I think it’s all about your intentions

“I would be getting pissed if she dressed as Sambo or someone”

But she is dressed as Sambo, isn’t she?

    November 2, 2009 at 2:31 am

    • Lil Wayne, Sambo … yeah I’d be careful drawing too deep distinction there. So for the record, black face is wrong, but “brown” face is okay? It’s a new trend? Any time I want to impersonate an asian american person, then, I can just pull the skin of my eyelids to the side to achieve the full effect – and it’s cool, right? Jeeze, it’s all in good fun. It’s one thing to dress as a person, it’s another to paint your skin their color and mock the shit out of them, and dance out the ugly stereotypes that attach themselves to his race. TOTALLY different from blackface, though! It’s Halloween 2009, people! Racism is dead! Have a sense of humor for god’s sake, we’s free now!

      • TxRacismVictim

IDK wht planet YOU live on but racism is not dead and you apparently don’t know what freedom is. I’ll bet you have never experienced either of these before… i think not. and i’m referring to such experiences in Texas in 2009!

        November 2, 2009 at 11:13 pm

      • ok Texasracismvictim, i guess my sarcasm didn’t come through in my response. i was MOCKING the “it’s just a halloween costume of her favorite artist!” defense. I do not think that “brown face” is okay; in fact, i think that her painting her face to dress up like Weezy is the 21st-century equivalent of dressing up and jiving like Sambo “for laughs”.

i do think that her costume, the other “brown-faced” costumes at that party, and the multitude of weak defenses for them are evidence of the fact that negative racial attitudes CLEARLY continue to run deep in Texas / our country. the fact that there are black people in the pictures smiling doesn’t make a difference in my book – we’ve laughed through much worse for various reasons. i find it abrasively ignorant and just plain lazy to take the handful of black people in these pictures as tokens representing all black people being/needing to be okay with this shit.

Thanks for your comment. I get what you are saying. Using Halloween as an excuse to dress or behave in an insensitive or offensive way (even if that is not the intent) does not change the fact that what she and others in the pics are doing is offensive. Several comments have been made that this is a costume and she was playing the part of a real person. However as a person with brown skin, if I was to dress up as Britney Spears I would not need to paint my skin white to get my point across. Is this girl and her actions the most important thing in the world right now. No. Is she the first person to do this. No. But it is really disappointing to think that there are so many people that don’t even seem to recognize the offense in this type of behavior.

She is portraying a Caricature of a rapper when she put this costume on I honestly don’t think she was like yeah! I’m gonna go make fun of some Negros tonight!!!! Why is everybody up in arms about her dressing as Lil Wayne and not saying a word about the guys dressed as Mariachi’s in the back? lol

I have to say because it was Halloween and IT IS a Halloween costume that it is perfectly ok. Personally, I believe ppl are carrying this way out of content. Stop being so sensitive, please!

This poor girl will probably get dismissed. She is the cover of the swimsuit calendar. The Dallas Cowboys organization is not into bad PR. Personally as an African American I finid this TOTOALLY ridiculous. She was dressed as a celebrity. People need to take the stick out of their bottom…THIS IS A DUMB thing to get mad about.

We must take it back to the time when no white person let olone a white woman, whould not impersonate a black person exept to poke fun. This costume was done out of admiration her favorite rapper so what is the big deal ?

    November 2, 2009 at 2:03 pm

  11. MStevo

I think she’s on to something……If more white chicks would paint themselves black – I’d definitely date more of them….I would poke on as many black painted white girls as I could – to do my part in bringing in some racial equality!

p.s. you know I would paint our little mulatto children yellow….gotta do something about the tension with the Korean lady at the corner store

Can you say double standard, check out ms trya banks show ASAP. She has dressed up models as people of color for ratings!! Ok who is pimpin who? This is Halloween I saw Black G Bushs, OCTO moms, etc… catch my drift,. As for blackface it was done by performers to make money (trya) not a 21 year old trying to have some fun on Halloween

You are comparing art to this craziness???? This girl made a poor decision and while her black friends are chilling in the back ground…obviously one of them had a problem with this or they would not have posted the picture from her “private” face book” account! You know they are going to release her from the DCC behind this too…watch!

well in that case we should re-vamp all issues concerning the mockery of races… we can start with black face in general, then sports such as renaming the “Red Skins” football team as that CLEARLY was a derogatory term against natives, THEN we can go into the music world.. and well that can be in a category all its own!

but the point i’m making here is NOT that we should forget the history of our ancestors but rather than allowing the past dictate our future, we should remember and become better than to allow things as such to get to us, because when you allow it to affect you negatively you give those who meant to do harm thru words the satisfaction of succeeding in their goal to bring you down…

race is only an issue when we allow it to become an issue… obviously in this country racism is alive and we continue to allow it to affect every aspect of what we do, including dressing up as a notorious rapper! if it were the other way around and an african american female decided to dress up like a famous country singer would we even be having this conversation? and this is said regardless of the difference in history, because in reality ALL people’s at one point in time have been oppressed to no avail and yet we fail to remember this and focus on what we think affects us today, which in reality the only thing that affects us each day is how we act and react in life…

    Honestly,
Its Halloween. They are obviously people out there trying to make a big deal about nothing. I think she looks great! It might be a little different if she did her face black (as if she was making fun) but she wasn’t. She wanted to dress up as someone, and she did! GET OVER IT!! I’m half White, half Hispanic , and dressed up as Michael Jackson(with the white face)Does that make me wrong too!!!!! I don’t think so, Case Closed, move on!!!!

    November 2, 2009 at 6:44 pm

  18. Danielle

I agree a 100 percent I think that her being let go from the team will honestly be dependent upon how the Cowboys feel about the issue hopefully they realize that it was all in Jest ..I think that the costume may have been a little racially insensitive to some sensitive folks but like I said I kind of seriously doubt that she wore this costume with the intent to directly mock African Americans…lets get over it folks!!

i would just like to say that Whitney has been one of my best friends since the day i met her and i KNOW that if she thought for just an inkling of a second that this might offend someone, she would not have DRESSED UP. People need to remember that halloween is JUST a holiday. A holiday where everyone dresses up. IN COSTUME. for shits and giggles. If you were a dancer or knew anything about the art of dance, you would know it is JUST A COSTUME. Something that us dancers wear to depict our emotion. Who doesn’t love lil wayne? I would definitely dress up as Lil Wayne for Halloween if i didn’t mind all the body paint. MEDIA: GET OVER IT!

    November 2, 2009 at 8:49 pm

  20. Tone

it’s not that big of deal…people have dressed up as Michael jackson before and there wasnt an issue…if anything is offensive it’s how weak of a fucking costume it is…instead of body paint she should’ve put more thought into Wayne’s tattoos cause she looks more like badly sunburned trailer trash…lol

    November 2, 2009 at 9:30 pm

the Cowboys will let her go and pick up another average looking blonde in the same day…move on people…this aint news…i got more important shit going in my pants…hahaha

“..I think that the costume may have been a little racially insensitive to some sensitive folks ”

Then you’re too sensitive. Get over yourself. Why was it okay a few years ago for two black men to dress up as white women in the movie “White Girls”? You “sensitive” people are hypocrites.

The world doesn’t revolve around what hurts “sensitive” peoples’s feelings. The minority should not dictating the majority. This country has a severe case of tail-wagging-the-dog syndrome. It’s starting to feel a lot like “reverse aparthied”.

even a little racially insensitive MAKES IT INSENSITIVE! u obviously didn’t learn in school … if part of the statement is false, all of it is false. no such thing as half! not that it matters, but i wonder what group u consider to be the minority!? u MUST BE a hermit! … stay away from the light! go back inside! This is not that big of a deal ,however it does show you that Black’s are seen as clown’s and not real people. The H.S.Hyland Park do a Ghetto day every year ,these white kid’s come dressed with GOLD Teeth ,ear ring’s ,saggin pant’s and in Black face for a day to pay homage to the ghetto (HOOD)after all they live in neighbor hood’s and the same logic would not apply. The fact that Black people would even pose in the same picture with white people dressed in Black face show’s that BLACK’S have No Real Racial pride they are passive ,complacent and weak on important issue’s.do you think an ASIAN person would pose with some white person dressed like Chair MAO or Ho Chi Minh,BRUCE LEE in Yellow face…HELL NO

    November 3, 2009 at 2:35 am

  33. Danielle

I think you are Speaking for yourself if *YOU* see Black people as Clowns then speak for *YOU* and not everyone else I seriously doubt if everybody thought like that we would have a Black President and Blacks with more money then you will ever make in your life..I speak for myself when I say I am proud of being African American they’re isn’t a bone in my body that is ashamed of my race excuse me if I don’t do what Whites expect and have a Knee Jerk reaction to this type of thing…and so what if white kids dress like Poor uneducated Blacks..they don’t represent me ..I don’t wear weave or gold teeth or sag or Kill my Brain Cells off by listening to Lil Wayne…..I think your comments and all to apparent racist attitude is one reason why this whole thing has gotten blown out of proportion…. If you feel so strongly about the Passivity and Weakness of Blacks then make a public blog and place your real Picture on it and let everybody know how you really feel

It was a Halloween party..you dress up in character at Halloween. Since when is that an issue? She wasn’t performing at a game or depicting someone negatively. She likes this rapper enough to want to represent..The news needs to move on from small nonissues and report on the war or the rise in the crime rate. Kudos to you Whit for being a great cheerleader and having a life.

As a friend of Whitney’s i KNOW for certain her intentions were not as they are being portrayed. She would never have tried to be racist in ANY way. Whitney would never hurt a fly much less make a fool out of herself for being “racist”. I feel awful for her and I definitely stick by her. Who knew a simple love for music could get her into this kind of trouble. I personally do not see anything wrong here. Did the world freak out when talk show host Wendy Williams (who is MUCH more famous than Whit) dress as Dolly Parton? No. Did anyone say anything about the girls in the background dressed as Mexican Mariachi members? No. Get off of Whitney’s case..it was freakin halloween!

    November 3, 2009 at 4:05 am

    • Anonymous

I am sure your friend did not mean to be offensive and I am sure she is not racist. Even if that was not their intent, she and the others, including the Mariachi members, are being insensitive. Unfortunately, your friend is getting the brunt of this because she was identified as representing an organization that prides itself in maintaining a reputation of respect and integrity. The history racism and offensive behavior towards minorities is still fresh in the memories of many. After all it was only 50-60 years ago that black people didn’t have rights equal to white people in the US. I am sure there are many examples that could be given by people who have experienced those things first hand. Hopefully this is a reminder to people, especially those who are in public positions, to think before they act.

The pictures were posted to her facebook which is only meant for her friends. The pictures are not offensive and to the person who decided to make Whitney’s life harder, all I have to say to you is grow up and stop being jealous. It’s not an attractive trait. Who knows, if you are lucky you may get the opportunity to have children. And then you can live thru them since you are unhappy with your own life. I doubt anything she or any of the other girls could do could hurt the image of the team or the company.
