According to The Bleacher Report –
Chris Rainey, a wide receiver for the Florida Gators, was released from jail this afternoon after spending the morning behind bars.
The story of his arrest is as follows.
The 22-year-old from Lakeland was exchanging text messages with an unidentified woman, a person that he had been dating for some periods of time over a three year span.
On Monday night, Rainey showed up outside of the woman’s place of residence around 11:00 p.m. and told her that he would break in through the window. The woman came out to talk to Rainey, told him to leave, and then went back inside.
Rainey however did not leave and continued to text her until the police arrived. An example text, sent at 12:22 a.m., read “Time to Die [expletive] u and ur???”
The arrest report states that when police arrived, Rainey, on the other end of a phone call said “Wait and see what happens when they leave,” a statement that he denies ever uttering.
As Florida offensive coordinator Steve Addazio said, “Chris Rainey is not a part of our team right now.” This is a direct consequence of the felony charges of stalking that the wide receiver now faces.
Rainey is at least temporarily off the team, but is still being represented in court by Mickey Marotti, the Gator’s director of strength and conditioning. He has been ordered to have no contact with the woman and to remain home from 10:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. except for school functions or work.
